Atharvaa Murali is preparing for the release of his upcoming Tamil film, Idhayam Murali. During a recent pre-release press conference, the actor addressed a question regarding his absence from Telugu cinema since his 2018 film, Gaddalakonda Ganesh.
Atharvaa responded positively, explaining that while he had plans to pursue more projects in Telugu, the COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted those intentions. He noted, "After we did Gaddalakonda Ganesh, I was going to do Telugu cinema. We had signed to do a couple of projects in Telugu, but after that, the whole Covid period came, and I had already signed multiple films in Tamil." He elaborated on how his commitments in Tamil cinema took precedence, leading to a delay in his Telugu film aspirations. "One thing led to another and fizzled out. But then coming back, I would really want to do an out-and-out Telugu film, so I would do that in the near future," he added. When asked if he regretted missing out on any blockbuster films, Atharvaa smiled and remarked that he views every film as significant in its own right. Gaddalakonda Ganesh, directed by Harish Shankar, was a successful action-comedy that featured Varun Tej, Pooja Hegde, and Mirnalini Ravi. The film, a remake of the Tamil hit Jigarthanda directed by Karthik Subbaraj, resonated well with audiences and became a box office success upon its release. As Atharvaa looks forward to Idhayam Murali, the film boasts a talented cast, including Kayadu Lohar and Preity Mukhundhan, alongside Natty Subramaniam, Ramki, Thaman S, Niharika NM, Rakshan, Dravid Selvam, Sudhakar, and Pragya Nagra. Notably, Fahadh Faasil will make a cameo appearance, and the film marks the return of music composer Thaman to acting after a 22-year hiatus. Atharvaa praised Thaman, stating, "Thaman sir didn't want to act, and he came to do the music for the film. We convinced him to act, and it was amazing to work with him." Idhayam Murali is set to hit theaters on July 10. Atharvaa, the son of the late Tamil actor Murali, made his acting debut in 2010 with Baana Kaathadi. He gained significant recognition for his role in Bala's period drama Paradesi, which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Tamil) in 2013. His filmography also includes acclaimed titles such as Nirangal Moondru and Eetti, solidifying his status in the Tamil film industry.
