Arsenal have identified Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers as their primary target for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Gunners are eager to strengthen their squad ahead of the next season, with midfield reinforcement viewed as a key priority area requiring upgrades.

However, the market is proving difficult to navigate due to inflated prices and fierce competition, forcing Arsenal to remain adaptable in their approach.

According to reports, Aston Villa may be compelled to offload one of their prized assets this summer. The Athletic has reported that Rogers is at the top of Arsenal’s wishlist, and that Villa could be pushed into selling their star player because of financial fair play regulations.

Having breached UEFA’s permissible loss threshold, Villa have entered into a settlement agreement which could result in severe sanctions if they fail to comply with the terms. Potential penalties include exclusion from European competitions, making financial discipline crucial for the club.

Although Villa would prefer to retain Rogers for the coming season, a potential sale could ease immediate financial pressures and prevent future complications. The club views adherence to UEFA rules as essential to avoid jeopardising their participation in continental tournaments.

Rogers is currently valued at more than the £116 million Manchester City spent on Elliot Anderson earlier this summer. Such a transfer could therefore generate a major financial boost for Villa, possibly transforming their fiscal outlook.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are also monitoring other targets. Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes remains of interest, though Arsenal have reportedly been informed he will not be available this summer following the sale of Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur.

Additionally, the club is keeping a close watch on Bradley Barcola’s situation as they explore multiple options to strengthen their midfield and attacking depth.

Arsenal’s pursuit of midfield talent is largely driven by their dependence on players like Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi last season. Injuries to key squad members such as Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard, combined with manager Mikel Arteta’s reluctance to rely on fringe players like Christian Norgaard, have highlighted the need for additional reinforcements if the club hopes to compete for more trophies while defending their Premier League crown.

In parallel, the Gunners have secured a deal for goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer, further enhancing their depth and competition within the squad.

The North London club’s recruitment strategy underlines their ambition to maintain domestic dominance while pushing for greater success in Europe, and the pursuit of Morgan Rogers could prove pivotal in achieving those aims.
