Ed Sheeran, often considered a good omen for the Three Lions, has once again brought his signature charm to the England camp by performing a private acoustic concert for the players. The exclusive session took place at the team’s base in Kansas City, as Thomas Tuchel’s men geared up for their crucial World Cup quarter-final encounter.

A continuing musical tradition

The England players received a morale lift ahead of the knockout rounds when Sheeran visited them at their Meadowbrook hotel headquarters. The acclaimed singer-songwriter, who has become a familiar presence during major tournaments, performed a relaxed acoustic set by the pool. The 35-year-old artist treated the squad to a stripped-down rendition of his popular track “Castle on the Hill.” This intimate gathering served to nurture the camaraderie and unity that have become defining features of the England setup in recent years.

Sheeran’s confident World Cup forecast

The Suffolk-born star’s association with the national side has strengthened over the past three major tournaments, making him a regular figure within the team’s inner circle. The tradition began in 2021 through his friendship with captain Harry Kane.

Speaking on the latest episode of Extra Time, Sheeran shared: “In 2021 Harry invited me down to the camp, and I got to meet everyone. I’ve been to every one since then. It’s been brilliant — a nice little tradition. Since that first time playing for the lads in 2021, we’ve built a real connection, so it’s never a tough crowd.”

Although his main purpose was to entertain, Sheeran also voiced his thoughts on how the remainder of the 2026 World Cup might unfold. With several powerhouse teams still in contention, the singer expressed confidence in England’s ability to overcome the challenges ahead and make it to the grand finale. He said: “I think it’ll be an England–France final. When you reach the final, anyone can win — and I think it will be us.”

Focus shifts to the Miami quarter-final

While the mood in Kansas City remains upbeat, the team’s attention must now turn to their upcoming quarter-final clash against Norway this Saturday in Miami. Tuchel’s tactical expertise will be crucial as England face a resilient Norwegian side that has been tough opposition throughout the tournament. The squad is also dealing with selection challenges following Jarell Quansah’s red card in the match against Mexico and an unusual wrist injury sustained by Jordan Henderson during post-match celebrations.
