Former Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has made his return to football management, taking charge of Ligue 1 side Paris FC. The 41-year-old English manager has signed a two-year deal with the French club, marking his comeback just three months after his short tenure at Stamford Bridge came to an end.

Rosenior officially takes over at Paris FC

The new head coach has signed a contract that reportedly includes an option for an additional year. He replaces Antoine Kombouare, who helped the team achieve stability and guided them to an 11th-place finish in the French top division last season. This appointment marks Rosenior’s second managerial stint in France, following his previous experience with RC Strasbourg.

Manager sets out his vision

The club’s leadership, supported by the Arnault family and Red Bull, were particularly impressed by Rosenior’s past record and leadership abilities. Sporting director Marco Neppe expressed strong belief that Rosenior’s modern and demanding approach would help raise the team’s competitive standards.

Speaking about the appointment, Neppe said: “Liam Rosenior embodies all the characteristics we were seeking. He is a modern, demanding coach known for his skill in developing both individuals and the team collectively.

“Beyond his tactical acumen, what stood out was his leadership and his ability to unite players behind a clear and ambitious vision. I am certain he possesses everything required to succeed at Paris FC, and I wish him the very best as he begins this exciting new chapter.”

Sharing his excitement with the club’s official media, Rosenior said: “I’m delighted to become the new coach of Paris FC. I can’t wait to begin working with the players. I want my team to play football with enjoyment, to express themselves freely, and to perform with intensity and passion. That’s what defines me, and I hope to bring that spirit to this club.”

Ambitious capital project underway

Rosenior’s reputation in French football remains strong following his successful term at RC Strasbourg, where he led one of Europe’s youngest squads to a seventh-place finish and UEFA Conference League qualification. His time in England with Hull City and Derby County, along with a proven history of developing young talent, played a major role in his Paris FC appointment.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have since appointed Xabi Alonso as their sixth permanent manager in four years under BlueCo ownership, following Rosenior’s departure.

Domestic challenge on the horizon

Rosenior is scheduled to oversee his first training session on Thursday before leading Paris FC into their 2026-27 Ligue 1 season opener away to Troyes on Saturday, August 22. With strong financial backing supporting the club, his primary goal will be to propel the team beyond last season’s mid-table position. The manager will need to quickly establish tactical cohesion across his squad before the summer transfer window concludes and competitive action begins.
