As anticipated, Fran Garcia has departed from Real Madrid to join fellow La Liga side Real Betis on a permanent transfer.

The Seville-based club officially announced the signing of the 26-year-old left-back today, confirming that he has penned a four-year contract running until 2030.

Real Madrid also issued a statement confirming the transfer, stating:

“Real Madrid CF and Real Betis Balompié have reached an agreement for the transfer of our player Fran Garcia.”

Negotiations between Real Betis and Real Madrid had been ongoing for some time, but the process accelerated today once both clubs reached a final agreement.

Following the agreement, Garcia swiftly completed his medical examination and signed his contract, thereby becoming an official Real Betis player.

Although the official statement did not disclose the financial details, Real Madrid are set to receive a fee of €4 million for 50% of the player’s economic rights. The deal is considered a prudent move for Real Madrid, given that Garcia was entering the final year of his contract.

With Los Blancos having secured the signing of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea earlier this summer and Alvaro Carreras remaining at the club, it became clear that Garcia did not feature in new manager Jose Mourinho’s plans for the upcoming season.

The left-back now leaves his boyhood club four years after being re-signed from Rayo Vallecano, where he had spent three productive seasons.

Across his two spells with the Real Madrid first team, Garcia made 110 appearances, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists.

During his time with the club, he won five major trophies: one UEFA Champions League, one FIFA Club World Cup, one UEFA Super Cup, one La Liga title, and one Spanish Super Cup.
