Newcastle United have reportedly agreed in principle to a transfer fee of around £50 million with SC Freiburg for midfielder Johan Manzambi.

The Magpies appear set to secure one of the breakout stars of the recent World Cup as they aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Manzambi delivered a string of impressive performances for Switzerland during the tournament, contributing three goals and two assists, which attracted significant attention from top European clubs.

According to reports, Newcastle have been monitoring Manzambi for several months, and sources in Germany now confirm that a deal has been reached between the Premier League side and Freiburg.

The 20-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a long-term contract with the Tyneside club. He was also on the radar of Aston Villa and several other European teams earlier this summer, but Newcastle seem to have won the race for his signature.

Manzambi was among Newcastle’s priority transfer targets even before the World Cup began, and his strong international displays have only strengthened their resolve to bring him to St James’ Park.

During the last Bundesliga season, the young Swiss midfielder made 38 appearances for Freiburg, scoring seven goals and registering five assists—a notable return that underlines his potential and maturity at a young age.

This development will be a major boost for Newcastle supporters, who have endured a challenging summer in the transfer market, particularly in their pursuit of midfield reinforcements.
