Under the guidance of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, “Healthy Gujarat, Obesity Free Gujarat Campaign-2026” has been started across the state. The main objective of this campaign is to prevent the increasing risk of obesity and non-communicable diseases by creating awareness among the citizens about balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. As soon as the monsoon season starts, everyone feels like eating hot bhajiya, samosa and fried junk food. But, chasing taste in this season can prove costly for health.

  • Why does digestive power decrease during monsoon? Ayurveda and science’s opinion

Both Ayurveda and modern medical science accept that during the monsoon season, due to high humidity in the atmosphere, the digestive power of the human body slows down. During these days, heavy, spicy and oily food is not easily digested. The risk of indigestion, gas, acidity and stomach infection doubles. Undigested calories are stored in the body as fat, which ultimately results in obesity.

  • Fasting and isolation: health science hidden behind religious faith

In Indian culture, there is a tradition of fasting in the month of Chomsa and giving up green vegetables, which has a deep science behind it. Consuming a limited diet purifies the digestive system. Scientific research shows that by controlled fasting, damaged cells in the body are automatically removed and new cells are formed.

  • What to avoid during Chomasa?

Excessive consumption of junk food like bhajiya, samosa, pakoda, pizza or burger, items sold openly on the road, stale food or half-cooked dishes, extremely cold water from the fridge, ice cream and soft drinks with excessive sugar, the habit of sleeping immediately after sleep and sedentary lifestyle should be avoided.

  • What to adopt to stay healthy?

Keep a tray for halwa, fresh and hot food in Chhomasa. Giving preference to mugs, dal khichdi, soups, boiled vegetables and nutritious home-cooked food. Drink warm boiled or freshly watered water. Consume fresh and cleanly washed seasonal fruits. Do yoga, pranayam, walking or indoor exercise regularly even during rainy days. Get adequate sleep and maintain personal hygiene.

  • People’s movement will become ‘Obesity Free Gujarat’

“Healthy Gujarat, Obesity Free Gujarat” is not just a government programme, but it has to be made a mass movement. In these days of Chomasa, we and our families can remain healthy by controlling the taste of our tongue, exercising regularly and adopting a pure diet. Let us participate in building a healthy and glorious Gujarat this month.
