At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already made his T20I debut for India against England, sparking a major debate: will the next generation of cricketers turn their backs on Test cricket?

Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers believes Sooryavanshi could become one of the first youngsters to openly choose T20 cricket over the longer format. Speaking on the Bombay Sports Exchange Podcast, de Villiers argued that the comforts of T20, shorter bowling spells, only two fielders outside the circle during powerplays, and flatter pitches make it a far easier life for batters. He suggested that if the teenager eventually says, "Sorry, I'm not interested in Test cricket," it shouldn't come as a surprise.

However, de Villiers was quick to add that the blame wouldn't lie with Sooryavanshi. He said the decision ultimately rests with administrators, who must choose between formats less obvious than it currently is. Regardless of what Vaibhav picks, de Villiers warned that his journey will be filled with difficult patches that will test his character and mental strength. He hoped the youngster has strong mentors and remains open to guidance.

Interestingly, Sooryavanshi's father, Sanjeev, has set a different standard, saying he won't consider his son a big cricketer until he plays Test cricket. Vaibhav himself has expressed a desire to represent India in all three formats, stating he already practices with the red ball and will adapt his game as needed.

The teenager's dream remains clear: to play Test cricket for India, while keeping his faith in God for the rest.
