Shreyas Iyer admits harsh truth after England seal series; reveals what went horribly wrong
Shreyas Iyer was left heartbroken in Bristol as India suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat in the fourth T20I, handing England an unassailable 3-0 series lead with one game remaining. Since taking over as India's T20I captain in June, Iyer is yet to register his first win, despite winning most tosses.
India managed only 158/7, largely thanks to Iyer's valiant 80* off 49 balls. But the total proved far too small as England chased it down in just 13.5 overs, losing only one wicket.
Speaking after the match, Iyer admitted the total was below par and pointed to poor execution with the ball. He said he had instructed his bowlers to stick to top-of-stump and leg-stump lines to make scoring difficult, but loose deliveries were punished. England's batters tore into India's attack; Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Prince Yadav, and Prasidh Krishna all conceded expensive overs.
While Iyer was pleased with his personal knock, he said it meant nothing without a winning cause. He now looks ahead to the final game, hoping to end the series on a positive note.
