Manchester United supporters have endured a lengthy wait for transfer updates, but their patience is finally being rewarded as the club edges closer to unveiling up to three new signings.
Two of these deals are already confirmed in principle, with midfielder Andrey Santos and goalkeeper Karl Darlow having successfully completed their medical examinations.
INEOS are reportedly very pleased with the acquisition of the Brazilian midfielder and believe that the former Chelsea player has the potential to thrive under the guidance of Michael Carrick.
As for Darlow, who previously played for Leeds United, the Red Devils required a homegrown goalkeeper to fill the void left by Altay Bayindir’s departure — and they appear to have found the right fit.
According to Sky Sports, both players are expected to be at Carrington on Friday to finalise and sign their contracts with the club.
“Manchester United are expected to complete the signings of Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow on Friday. Both players have passed their medicals with the club and agreed personal terms.
“They are expected to be at Carrington on Friday to sign those deals, as United prepare for a full return to pre-season training next week.”
Uncertainty still surrounds the situation of Ederson, who was initially announced as United’s first summer signing. Many supporters believed the transfer was complete, awaiting only the final medical clearance.
The Brazilian international reportedly underwent a medical in the United States during his national team’s World Cup campaign, but the 20-time English champions were not entirely satisfied with the results.
Consequently, the club has summoned the Atalanta midfielder to Manchester for a more comprehensive medical evaluation, which is expected to span two days and conclude on Friday.
“A thorough medical is still ongoing for midfielder Ederson. United hope to also complete his signing in the coming days.”
It remains unclear whether Manchester United will announce any of the three signings on Friday or hold off until the weekend. Regardless, fans are likely to be pleased that INEOS appear to be moving decisively in the transfer market.
Manager Michael Carrick is also expected to seek at least one additional midfield reinforcement, along with a new left-back, left-winger, and backup striker, as he prepares his squad for another challenging Champions League campaign.
