An Irish man has been sentenced to just 14 years in prison for brutally murdering an American tourist while having sex with her and dumping her body in the woods. McKenzie Elizabeth Michalski, a 31-year-old nurse from Portland, Oregon (Mackenzie Elizabeth Michalski) had gone missing about 2 years ago in November 2024 while on holiday in Hungary. After this it was found out that he was murdered. During this period, relations were also established with him.
The accused has been identified only by his initials LTM due to Hungary’s anonymity laws. It is alleged that after meeting in a nightclub in Budapest Mackenzie Elizabeth Michalski Had invited him to his apartment to have sex. After this he tied him, beat him and strangled him to death. After this, he tried to hide the murder by hiding the dead body in his cupboard.
After murdering Michalski, the accused cleaned the apartment. His body was then stuffed into a newly purchased suitcase and driven in a rented car about 90 miles to the south-west and hidden in the woods near Lake Balaton. After a long court hearing, the Budapest-Capital Regional Court found the man guilty of murder and on Wednesday (July 08, 2026) sentenced him to 14 years in prison without parole.
The court said in a statement that the accused did not try to save Michalski nor call for help. According to the court’s findings, he knew the consequences of his actions, i.e. the victim’s death was certain, yet he did this. At the same time, the postmortem of the girl revealed that she was strangled for two to three minutes and her head was also hit with a heavy object. His mother told the court that when she saw Michalski’s face, it was unrecognizable.

During the investigation, police found a disturbing video on the killer’s phone of Michalski’s body, in which she was naked and bound. They also seized a ‘spy pen’ from him, which contained further sordid evidence of his crimes, as well as footage of him visiting several women in Budapest. Michalski’s friends reported him missing on November 5, 2024, because he did not check out of his Airbnb and did not catch his flight back to the US.
Hungarian police investigating her disappearance soon found security footage of her leaving the Zimpla Kurt nightclub with LTM. Investigators said his Internet search history included queries such as whether pigs eat corpses, the presence of wild boars around Lake Balaton, and the reliability of the Budapest police. LTM also searched ‘How trustworthy are the police in Budapest’ and ‘How do the police handle missing person cases?’
On November 5, 2024, friends reported Michalski missing after she was unable to check out of her Airbnb and catch her flight back to the United States. At the same time, LTM’s lawyers argued during the trial that Michalski’s injuries were caused by consensual sex and that he had asked her to strangle him, which accidentally led to her death.
