Manchester City have completed the signing of their former academy goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday in a deal valued at £10 million. The Northern Ireland international has inked a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium but will spend the forthcoming season on loan at Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

The Premier League champions have finalised the return of Pierce Charles, who previously came through their youth ranks before joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2021. The 20-year-old shot-stopper has now committed his future to Manchester City until the summer of 2031. However, the club has decided to send him out on a season-long loan to QPR to enable him to gain more first-team experience and continue his development in competitive football.

Following the completion of the transfer, Charles has already turned his attention to cementing a starting place in Julien Stephan’s QPR squad. The young keeper, who made 21 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday last season, highlighted how vital consistent first-team action is for his progression at this stage of his career.
