Satluj Re-Release Demand: Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Satluj’ is continuously in the headlines. After the film was removed from the OTT platform ZEE5, the matter has now reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Let us tell you that a demand has been raised to re-release this film on OTT. For this, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the High Court. The petitioner says that it is wrong to remove the film without any clear legal order. In such a situation, now all eyes are on the court hearing whether the court orders the re-release of the film or not.

Satluj was removed from OTT on 5th July

Let us tell you that Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ was released and streamed on ZEE5 on 3rd July. However, just two days after its release, on Sunday, July 5, it was removed from the platform. After the release of the film, the debate continues on social media. And many people demanded to know the reason for this. Now according to media reports, a PIL has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the removal of the film. In which it was said that the platform has removed the film only citing the current circumstances. But it did not tell whether the decision to remove the film was taken on the basis of which court, government order or legal instruction or not.

These issues were raised in the petition

The petitioner has said in the application filed in the High Court that removing the film without any legal instructions is a violation of freedom of expression and people’s rights to get information. For this reason, a demand has been made from the court that Satulj should be re-released on ZEE5 across the country. Not only this, if there is any legal, judicial or government order behind the removal of the film, then it should also be made public, so that people can know about it. In such a situation, now this matter is not limited to just one film, but the debate on freedom of expression and accountability of digital platforms has also intensified.

The name of the film was changed

It was also said in the petition that the earlier name of this film was Punjab 95, which was later changed to ‘Sutlej’. This film is based on the life and work of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalda. He played an important role in exposing cases of alleged illegal funerals during the period of militancy in Punjab. It has been said in the petition that the incidents shown in the film are not new or intelligence information. These cases have already been investigated and heard by the Supreme Court, CBI, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and other government agencies. In such a situation, it cannot be considered right to remove the film without complete legal process.

Satluj was released on OTT after 3 years

‘Sutlej’ was in controversy for a long time before its release. According to the information, after three years it was finally released on OTT on July 3, 2026. Diljit Dosanjh himself had given information about this through social media. But controversy arose after the film was removed after two days. Now after filing a petition in the High Court, a demand has been made for its re-release. In such a situation, it is expected to be heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the coming days. After this, the court’s decision will decide whether the film will be re-released or not. At present, the film industry, audience and legal experts are keeping an eye on this entire matter.
