R Madhavan on 3 Idiots Remake: More than the praise that R Madhavan has received for playing the character of Ajit Doval in the 'Dhurandhar' franchise, his iconic role in the film '3 Idiots' is more popular among the audience. Madhavan played the role of Farhan in this film of Rajkumar Hirani. He got a lot of fame from this role, but despite getting so much love, R Madhavan refused to play the same role in the Tamil remake of this film 'Nanban' directed by Shankar. After years, R Madhavan has given the reason for rejecting the Tamil remake of '3 Idiots'. The actor told that when Shankar put forward the idea of Tamil adaptation of '3 Idiots', he did not like Shankar's intentions.
in an old conversation R Madhavan Talks about his decision to reject the Tamil remake of '3 Idiots'. During this, he shared that he did not trust the process of making the Tamil version of the film. When asked why he rejected 'Nanban', Madhavan cited a "big formula" in his life that has often worked for him.
During the conversation, Madhavan said, "There is a big formula in my life - look beyond what is clearly visible. If seen only superficially, doing '3 Idiots' in Tamil was a profitable deal. If you see the tick box, it was clear that the Tamil version of '3 Idiots' will be a hit. Thalapathy Vijay had the lead role.
R Madhavan said that while playing the character of Farhan in the Hindi film, he had lived it to the fullest, but he did not feel right playing the same character again. He said, "When I was doing '3 Idiots', I felt that character and created it. If I were to do the same thing again, I would be just reproducing it. Every time you act, you have a different experience. If I had gone there and performed poorly, it was completely expected, because there is a kind of carelessness that I have done this before. The good identity I had created as Farhan, would have been erased and that is what people would remember."
R Madhavan also told that one thing said by Director Shankar had raised questions in his mind. He said, "My intention was that I do not want to do this film. But you have to put your point in the right way. So I said that there is a problem of dates or I am too old for this role. When I did '3 Idiots', I was still 40 years old and Shankar takes a long time to complete his films. I felt that by the time the film is completed, I will be close to 50 and then it would not be right to play a young character."
The actor further said that one more thing about Shankar had irritated him. According to him, "Shankar told me that I have done so many big projects and now want to do a 'Quickie'. I want to move ahead by making '3 Idiots'. Hearing this, an alarm went off in my mind. I thought, you cannot see 3 Idiots like a Quickie. This film is not like that." Madhavan finally told that for him '3 Idiots' was not just a film. He said, “When I was playing the character of Farhan, it was like a religion for me.” He recalled that as soon as he heard the story from Rajkumar Hirani, he was completely connected with the character.
