Harry Kane has disclosed that he played a round of golf with Donald Trump just days after the President of the United States publicly praised his performance in England’s match against Mexico.
The England captain had an eventful evening at the Azteca Stadium, scoring and assisting in a 3-2 win over the co-hosts, while also conceding a penalty shortly after finding the net.
As Kane and the Three Lions gear up for their quarter-final clash with Norway, the Bayern Munich forward has shared details about a different kind of contest — a golf match with the US President.
Kane has spoken about enjoying his new chapter since departing Tottenham Hotspur, with his move to Germany marking a fresh start. The striker has delivered his best goalscoring season to date, helping Bayern Munich secure both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal titles.
According to a report in The Athletic, Kane’s rising international profile since leaving the Premier League eventually led to his round of golf with President Trump.
During a pre-match press conference ahead of the Norway encounter, the 32-year-old revealed that the game took place about 18 months ago in Florida.
Kane shared: “He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. When the President invites you somewhere, you don’t really say no.”
He continued, “It was quite a surreal experience just meeting him, let alone playing golf with him. His game is actually pretty good, to be honest... I played alright myself.
“I just hope I can play golf as well as he does when I’m his age. It was definitely a unique experience, and I’m thankful he invited me,” Kane concluded.
Trump had earlier praised Kane’s display against Mexico in a social media post on Sunday, stating: “Harry Kane of England is a GREAT player!”
The following day, the President spoke more about the England striker, confirming their previously undisclosed golf outing. “I think Kane is a great player,” Trump said. “I’ve played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer — really great.”
