Defensive midfielder Éderson, who was called up to represent Brazil at the FIFA World Cup following Wesley’s omission, will no longer be moving to Manchester United.

Reports indicate that Éderson did not clear his medical examination, leading to the collapse of the agreement with Atalanta.

Having already secured an agreement with Andrey Santos, the Red Devils have now turned their attention to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ João Gomes as their next transfer target.

The midfielder, a product of Flamengo’s youth academy, had been in advanced negotiations with Atlético de Madrid over a potential €45 million transfer.

However, the situation changed dramatically after agent Jorge Mendes, who was facilitating the deal, redirected Bernardo Silva — previously an Atlético target — to Real Madrid instead.

João Gomes had already begun preparations for his move to Spain when Atlético decided to back out, reportedly frustrated with Jorge Mendes’ handling of the situation.

Despite Wolverhampton’s relegation to the Championship, the No. 8 midfielder has remained a standout performer and is also said to be on Liverpool’s radar.

Meanwhile, Éderson is expected to return to Italy to rejoin Atalanta’s squad.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Bergamo-based club believe the Brazilian midfielder is fully fit and ready to resume pre-season training ahead of the upcoming campaign.

During the World Cup, Éderson featured briefly, coming on in the 81st minute against Haiti and later in the 79th minute during the match in which Brazil were eliminated by Norway.
