PHEV: Mercedes-Benz India is going to launch its new performance sedan AMG E53 Plug in Hybrid in the Indian market on July 23. This model was first launched in the global market in the year 2024. The new E53 combines AMG’s powerful six-cylinder petrol engine with plug-in hybrid technology, which allows driving in fully electric mode for limited distances with excellent performance. This model is available in both sedan and estate (wagon) body styles. However, at present the possibility of its sedan version being launched in India is considered more likely.
Will get sporty AMG design
The design of the new Mercedes-AMG E53 is similar to the standard E-Class, but it has been given many exclusive styling elements of AMG. At the front, the signature AMG Panamericana grille, large air intake, wide front fenders and a more aggressive bumper distinguish it.
The rear profile features a boot-lid spoiler, black diffuser and four round exhaust tips, which further enhance its sporty appeal. The standard model gets 19-inch alloy wheels, while the option of 20 and 21-inch alloy wheels is also available in the international markets.
Premium and technology rich cabin
The interior layout is largely similar to the regular E-Class, but AMG has made several sporty changes to it. It has sports seats, leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and gray open-pore ash wood trim.
Apart from this, it gets Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment system. Meanwhile, MBUX Superscreen, which provides a separate display for the front passenger, is available as an optional feature in the international markets.
Plug-in hybrid system with power of 593bhp
The Mercedes-AMG E53 Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-6 petrol engine, which is paired with an electric motor. Together they generate maximum power of 593bhp and torque of 750Nm.
The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The company claims that this luxury sports sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, while its electronically limited top speed is 280 km/h.
Electric range of more than 100 km
The new E53 has a 21.2kWh (usable) battery pack, which is installed under the boot floor. According to the company, this car can run more than 100 km (as per international test cycle) in electric mode once fully charged.
For charging, it has the support of 11kW AC charger, with the help of which it takes about 6 hours to fully charge the battery.
