Money Saving Tips: Akshay CN, a resident of Bengaluru, shared tips on his Instagram page that are helping him save money. His post has garnered numerous comments.
Tips for saving money: People living in big cities often complain that they have no savings left by the end of the month. More than half of their salary is consumed by expenses like house rent, transportation, and groceries.
Managing expenses has become a challenge, particularly for working professionals living in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. Amidst this, a Bengaluru resident has shared simple habits that help him save money without making major compromises in his daily life.
Akshay CN shared these tips on his Instagram page, @bangalore_viral. In the video, he explained how making small adjustments to his lifestyle and spending habits allowed him to cut down on unnecessary expenses while maintaining his standard of living. In the post's caption, Akshay wrote, "How I reduced my expenses in Bengaluru without compromising on my lifestyle."
Living near the metro is the most cost-effective option
First, instead of choosing an expensive or fancy neighborhood, Akshay prioritized living near a metro station. He wrote, "I decided to live near the metro rather than moving to a 'fancy' area. Although the rent seemed a bit high initially, I saved a significant amount on daily commuting, fuel, and auto-rickshaw fares, while also reducing mental stress." He noted that the reduced travel time and lower transportation costs made a noticeable difference in his monthly expenses.
Cutting down on convenience-based spending
Akshay explained that while living in Bengaluru, he gradually began reducing expenses incurred solely for the sake of convenience. Quick deliveries, auto-subscriptions, and frequent small online purchases caused his monthly expenses to gradually creep up. Akshay shifted from making last-minute decisions to planning his weekends in advance.
Akshay notes that impulsive visits to cafes or pubs, or spending money on a whim, take a toll on savings without one even realizing it immediately. He added, "Instead of spending thoughtlessly, I started planning my weekends. Unplanned cafe visits, pub outings, and spontaneous trips drain savings in Bengaluru much faster than people realize."
Pressure to Maintain a Lifestyle
In the video, Akshay also discussed the pressure people face within Bengaluru's work culture to constantly upgrade their lifestyle. Many spend money simply to project an up-to-date image or to keep pace with prevailing trends.
Akshay mentioned that he stopped upgrading his gadgets just to keep up with others. Switching from a reliance on restaurants and online food delivery to cooking at home benefited both his savings and his health. Concluding his post, Akshay wrote that a high salary alone does not solve financial troubles; better habits matter more.
