India head coach Gautam Gambhir's support staff could undergo significant changes following the team's disappointing T20I campaign, with reports claiming the BCCI is reviewing the futures of several members after back-to-back series defeats.

According to a report by The Times of India, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and bowling coach Morne Morkel are both uncertain about continuing in their roles beyond the upcoming ODI series against England, while fielding coach T Dilip is also under scrutiny due to India's declining standards in the field.

Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel weighing their futures

The report states that both ten Doeschate and Morkel are contemplating their futures after the three-match ODI series against England.

While Ryan ten Doeschate is reportedly finding the year-round travel demanding and has conveyed his concerns to the BCCI, Morne Morkel is said to be evaluating his options before making a decision.

According to The Times of India, the BCCI has already begun discussions with both coaches in an attempt to convince them to continue.

"Doeschate isn't very sure of continuing with this job. He has conveyed his problems with travelling with the team throughout the year. Morkel is still weighing his options. The board is discussing the matter with the two coaches and will try to see if things can be sorted out," the report quoted sources as saying.

BCCI has contingency plan in place

If either coach decides to leave, the report adds that the BCCI already has a backup option.

Lakshmipathy Balaji, who was recently appointed as the fast bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, could be drafted into the national team setup for future assignments, including the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

The report also claims that ten Doeschate has been in talks with an IPL franchise, while Morkel has not yet made a final decision regarding his future.

Fielding coach T Dilip also under scrutiny

The report further claims that fielding coach T Dilip's position is also under review following India's recent struggles in the field.

According to The Times of India, the BCCI is unhappy with India's deteriorating fielding standards, with dropped catches and missed opportunities proving costly during recent series.

"The board is not happy with the team's deteriorating fielding standards. Dilip got a reprieve last year after being sacked along with Nayar," the report stated.

Gambhir facing mounting pressure after England defeat

The uncertainty surrounding the coaching staff comes after India endured successive T20I series defeats against Ireland and England.

Following a 2-0 loss to Ireland, India were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by England, prompting criticism of both the team's performances and the management's tactical decisions.

Despite the speculation surrounding his support staff, Gautam Gambhir himself remains under contract until the 2027 ODI World Cup, although the BCCI is expected to conduct a performance review after the recent setbacks.

As of now, neither the BCCI nor Ryan ten Doeschate, Morne Morkel or T Dilip has publicly commented on the report. The claims remain based on information published by The Times of India.
