Rajasthan-born interventional cardiologist Dr Samin K. Sharma has been appointed *Chief of Clinical Cardiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York*, a leadership role that crowns more than three decades of contributions to one of the United States' premier cardiovascular programmes. The appointment has been welcomed by the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), which described it as a moment of pride for Rajasthan, India and the Indian-American community.

Unlike earlier reports that focused primarily on the appointment, the recognition has also shone a light on Sharma's longstanding ties with the Indian diaspora and his philanthropic work connecting healthcare institutions in the United States and India.

In a statement, *RANA New York*, along with Jaipur Foot USA and BRUHUD NY Seniors, congratulated Sharma on his elevation, with RANA President Prem Bhandari calling it a fitting recognition of a physician whose work has influenced interventional cardiology, patient care, innovation and medical leadership for decades.

"Dr Samin Sharma is not only the pride of Rajasthan, but also the pride of India and the United States," Bhandari said in the organisation's press release. "His extraordinary contributions to interventional cardiology, patient care, innovation and medical leadership over more than three decades have earned him worldwide respect."

From Rajasthan to One of America's Leading Cardiac Centres

Born in Rajasthan, Sharma completed his medical education in Jaipur before moving to the United States in the 1980s. Over the years, he has become one of the country's best-known interventional cardiologists, serving in several senior leadership positions at Mount Sinai and helping establish its cardiac catheterisation programme as one of the busiest and most respected in North America.

He has also co-founded the *Eternal Heart Care Centre and Research Institute (EHCC)* in Jaipur, a tertiary cardiac hospital that today treats patients from Rajasthan as well as neighbouring states and overseas, according to the RANA statement.

Recognised for Medical Leadership and Community Service

RANA highlighted that Sharma's influence extends well beyond clinical medicine.

The organisation noted that he has been one of its strongest supporters since its inception and has also worked closely with *Jaipur Foot USA*, contributing to humanitarian initiatives aimed at expanding access to healthcare.

According to the association, Sharma played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic by coordinating with Mount Sinai Hospital and Jaipur Foot USA to facilitate shipments of ventilators and critical medical supplies to India at a time when hospitals across the country faced acute shortages. The organisation said those efforts helped save countless lives during the public health emergency.

Longstanding Association With RANA

RANA also recalled Sharma's long association with the organisation, noting that he serves as one of its patron members and has actively supported the association's activities over the years.

The organisation has hosted four International Rajasthani Conventions in New York, attended by former Rajasthan Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot and Vasundhara Raje at different editions. It announced plans to organise a special luncheon in Sharma's honour to celebrate his latest achievement.

Sharma's appointment adds to the growing list of Indian-origin physicians leading major departments at top US academic medical institutions and reflects the increasing influence of Indian medical professionals in global healthcare leadership.
