Manchester United are reportedly in the final phase of negotiations to secure the services of Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans, according to credible journalist David Ornstein.

The Red Devils are stepping up their efforts to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the upcoming season, as they gear up for their return to the Champions League and aim to mount a serious challenge for domestic honours.

Casemiro has already departed the club following the end of his contract. Meanwhile, Manuel Ugarte suffered an ACL injury during the World Cup while representing Uruguay.

Although Ugarte had initially been placed on the transfer list, he is now expected to remain at the club while he recovers from the long-term injury. United had previously reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Ederson; however, it was revealed last week that Michael Carrick’s team withdrew from the deal after conducting more detailed medical examinations on the Brazilian midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Ederson left England over the weekend and was left disappointed that the move fell through.

Manchester United are also close to confirming the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea, but the club’s recruitment drive is far from over, with up to two additional midfield acquisitions anticipated.

According to David Ornstein, United are now edging closer to bringing in experienced Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans.

Ornstein stated, “Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.”

He added, “Tielemans is contracted with Villa until June 2028, but United have spotted an opportunity to secure the 29-year-old midfielder. Despite interest from other clubs, Tielemans prefers a move to Old Trafford.”

“Discussions are ongoing among all parties to finalise the deal, which has come as somewhat of a surprise but would inject much-needed experience and quality into an area United are keen to strengthen this summer.”

This update has also been confirmed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Romano wrote, “BREAKING: Manchester United are closing in on Youri Tielemans deal from Aston Villa!”

“The agreement is at a very advanced stage, as reported by @David_Ornstein and @TheAthleticFC.”

“Aston Villa have accelerated their move for Johan Manzambi as Tielemans is expected to complete his transfer to Manchester United.”

Tielemans played a pivotal role for Aston Villa during the 2025/26 season, helping them secure Champions League qualification and lift the Europa League trophy.

The Belgian international registered two goals and seven assists across all competitions during the campaign.
