New Delhi [भारत]July 13 (ANI): India's textile exports grew by nearly 10 per cent in June 2026, but overall textile and apparel exports remained almost flat this month due to a sharp decline in apparel shipments, according to an analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).
According to "CITI Analysis of Exports and Imports of Textiles and Apparel for June 2026", "During June'26, Indian textile exports registered a growth of 9.64% over the previous year, while apparel exports registered a significant decline of -11.25% during the same period."
The report showed that despite strong growth in textile exports, total exports of textiles and apparel stood at US$ 2.91 billion in June 2026, showing a marginal growth of only 0.21 per cent compared to the same month last year.
This trend remained weak for the April-June quarter also. "During April-June'26, Indian textile exports registered a growth of 5.19% over the previous year, while apparel exports registered a decline of -12.44% during the same period," the report said.
As a result, total textile and apparel exports declined 2.95 per cent year-on-year to US$ 8.81 billion during Q1FY27 from US$ 9.08 billion a year ago, according to the industry body's analysis.
Within the textile segment, handicrafts excluding handmade carpets recorded the strongest growth in June, growing 59.7 percent year-on-year to US$208.31 million. Exports of cotton yarn, fabrics, made-ups and handloom products increased by 8.82 per cent to US$ 1.01 billion, while man-made yarn, fabrics and made-ups increased by 2.83 per cent. However, exports of jute products declined by 29.07 percent and carpet exports declined by 5.82 percent this month.
The analysis also showed that the share of textiles and apparel in India's total merchandise exports in June 2026 was 7.19 percent, up from 8.30 percent a year ago. During the April-June period, the sector's share in total exports declined to 6.82 per cent from 8.14 per cent in the same period last year.
On the import side, imports of cotton (raw) and waste rose 151.02 per cent year-on-year to US$185.08 million in June, while imports of textile yarn, fabric and made-ups rose 4.93 per cent to US$216.32 million in June, according to a CITI analysis based on commerce ministry data. (ANI)
