Manchester United have officially finalised the £50 million transfer of midfielder Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

The Brazilian midfielder has penned a five-year contract with the Red Devils, which includes an option to extend for an additional year.

Speaking after the announcement, Santos expressed his excitement: “Everything about Manchester United is special; it’s an incredible feeling to join a club that some of my biggest idols have represented.”

He added, “As a midfielder, I am really looking forward to learning under Michael Carrick. He is the ideal coach to help me take the next step in my career and to push me towards achieving my dreams.

“Everyone has told me about the club’s ambition and the fantastic environment that has been built here. I know how strong the squad is, and I can’t wait to contribute and fight for the biggest trophies together.”

Santos, who joined Chelsea in 2023, also had loan spells with Vasco da Gama, Nottingham Forest, and Strasbourg during his time with the London club.

Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised the new signing, saying: “Andrey is a superb midfielder with excellent technical ability and the capacity to influence the game both defensively and offensively.

“He was one of our top priorities for this transfer window, so we are thrilled that he joins Michael’s squad early in pre-season.

“Even though he already possesses significant experience, leadership qualities, and has shown his talent at the highest level, Andrey still has massive potential to grow further. We look forward to watching him develop at Manchester United.”

The club are also expected to strengthen their midfield further with the signing of Aston Villa’s Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian international has a £35 million release clause, which United are prepared to activate to secure the 29-year-old’s services.

In addition, goalkeeper Karl Darlow is anticipated to complete his move to Old Trafford following his departure from Leeds United.
