Manchester United’s efforts to sign Crysencio Summerville are facing a major challenge, as Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal have now joined the race to acquire the West Ham United winger, according to recent reports.
With the prices of their top left-wing targets, Yan Diomande and Morgan Rogers, soaring beyond £100 million, Manchester United have shifted their attention to Summerville, identifying him as their “No.1 target” for the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international, who stood out at the World Cup with two goals and two assists in four appearances under Ronald Koeman, delivered an impressive campaign for West Ham despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
Known for his dazzling dribbling ability and explosive pace, the “incredible” Rotterdam-born player is a dynamic wide threat who can attack both inside and outside, performing effectively on either flank. This versatility is believed to be a major attraction for the decision-makers at Old Trafford.
West Ham are demanding £50 million to sanction his departure. The East London side demonstrated their tough negotiating stance during Manchester United’s drawn-out pursuit of Mateus Fernandes, which ended with Tottenham Hotspur swooping in to pay the full £85 million fee.
United are cautious that Tottenham Hotspur could repeat such a move for Summerville, particularly as Roberto De Zerbi seeks greater attacking depth. Chelsea and Liverpool have also been linked with the player, while European champions Paris Saint-Germain expressed interest last month.
However, a lucrative offer from the Middle East could see West Ham accept a deal before United have a chance to act – and there are two main reasons why this could happen.
According to Paddy Keogh (Attacking Football), Al-Hilal have identified Summerville as a “key target” for this summer. The Blue Waves, who finished third in the Saudi Pro League last season, are looking to replace Brazilian winger Malcom, with the Dutchman considered their top choice.
Al-Hilal are reportedly “pushing” to finalise a deal, and their financial strength makes a £50 million bid a straightforward proposition. Keogh confirms that West Ham are “open to a sale” if their valuation is met, echoing the scenario that unfolded with Fernandes.
Interestingly, Fulham are also said to be interested, though the Cottagers are not viewed as a serious threat to United’s ambitions. A report shared by The Peoples Person indicated that Summerville’s preference is to move to Old Trafford. Nevertheless, if the Red Devils fail to meet the £50 million asking price, Al-Hilal could easily overtake them—just as Tottenham did with Fernandes. INEOS, United’s new leadership group, have already initiated talks with West Ham, but the club may need to sell Marcus Rashford to raise additional funds.
The market for the 28-year-old England forward has been limited, and his ongoing involvement in the World Cup with the Three Lions adds another complication. This delay could prove costly if Al-Hilal secure approval from West Ham and present Summerville with a financial package far beyond what he could earn anywhere in Europe.
