Reasons for Medical College Admission Cancellation: The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to announce the NEET UG results by July 20, 2026. More than 20 lakh candidates are eagerly waiting for the results of the NEET UG re-examination. Many students and their families mistakenly believe that achieving a high score and a strong All India Rank on the NEET merit list guarantees a seat in an MBBS program. However, this is not always true. Each year, numerous candidates qualify for NEET but still do not gain admission to medical colleges.
In fact, the regulations established by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and state counselling authorities are quite stringent. Successfully passing the NEET UG exam is just the initial step in a lengthy process. Even a small mistake during counselling, document verification, or college reporting can jeopardize years of effort. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of the common mistakes that can lead to the cancellation of MBBS admissions, even after qualifying for NEET and being assigned a seat.
**Fraudulent Document Verification**
The primary and most frequent cause of MBBS admission cancellations is discrepancies or falsifications related to documents. If there are inconsistencies in details such as name, date of birth, or marks on 10th/12th-grade certificates, the NEET admit card, or the scorecard during counselling or college reporting, the college will immediately stop the admission process. Additionally, if a student secures a seat under a specific category (like OBC, SC, ST, or EWS) or uses a fraudulent domicile certificate, and this is discovered during verification, not only will the admission be revoked, but legal action may also follow.
**Ignoring MCC Counselling Regulations**
Not fully understanding the rules during NEET UG counselling can be detrimental. As per MCC guidelines, if you are assigned a seat in Round 2 or Round 3 but fail to report to the college within the designated timeframe, your security deposit will be forfeited, and you will be excluded from further counselling rounds. Frequently, candidates aiming for a seat upgrade neglect to formally resign from their currently allotted seat as per the required procedure. Not adhering to the formalities when relinquishing a seat or violating rules can lead to the candidate's removal from the admission process.
**Not Meeting Class 12 Eligibility Requirements**
Many candidates excel in the NEET-UG exam but fail to meet the essential eligibility criteria for the Class 12 board examinations. According to NEET-UG regulations, students in the General category must achieve at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12; for reserved categories, this requirement is 40%. Even if a candidate ranks highly in NEET-UG, their admission will be immediately cancelled if their PCB marks in the Class 12 board results fall short of the required percentage by even one mark.
**Inability to Pass the Medical Fitness Test**
Medical colleges conduct thorough medical examinations for every selected student at the time of MBBS admission. To qualify as a doctor, a candidate must be both physically and mentally fit. If the examination uncovers a serious physical disability or illness that does not meet the standards set by the Medical Council of India (now the National Medical Commission/NMC) or could hinder the candidate's ability to practice medicine in the future, the admission of the successful candidate will be cancelled.
