Roma have made a formal offer worth up to €40 million for Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho, while also considering a move for Crysencio Summerville as part of their efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season. Under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, the Giallorossi are pushing to add more attacking quality and depth to their lineup. The Italian side has presented a structured proposal to sign the Argentine international from Stamford Bridge after a challenging first campaign with the London club.

Roma pursue Chelsea outcast

The Serie A club’s proposal includes an initial €5 million loan fee coupled with an option to buy for €35 million (£30m/$40m). According to journalist Gian Luca Di Marzio, this option could turn into an obligation to purchase if specific performance-related objectives are met during Garnacho’s spell in Rome. The total deal would allow Chelsea to recover the amount they paid to Manchester United for the player just a year earlier.

New Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has acknowledged that the winger’s future may lie away from London. Speaking about the situation, Alonso said: “We have held discussions with the sporting directors, and there is interest from other clubs. Let’s see how it develops, but hopefully it concludes positively for everyone involved.”

Garnacho pushing for a move away from Stamford Bridge

The Argentine’s intention to leave Chelsea has become increasingly apparent after he missed the start of pre-season training at Cobham. Following a disappointing campaign in which he scored only one Premier League goal, the 22-year-old is prioritising a transfer that guarantees regular first-team football, which could help him regain a spot in the Argentina national team.

While Roma are keen on a loan-to-buy arrangement, Chelsea’s management prefer permanent deals this summer to help balance their finances. Negotiations remain ongoing, with Roma aiming to capitalise on Garnacho’s struggles in England to secure a player with significant potential.

Summerville also on Roma’s wishlist

Roma’s pursuit of new wide players extends beyond Garnacho. The club has renewed contact regarding West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, who is reported to be a top target for Gasperini’s side. Additionally, Christos Tzolis has been identified as another option under consideration. Roma’s recruitment focus is on adding greater pace and efficiency in front of goal from the wings, and they have also been keeping tabs on Strasbourg’s Diego Moreira as part of their scouting across Europe’s major leagues.

Strategic sales to support new signings

Chelsea’s openness to talks reflects their broader strategy to reshape the squad under Alonso’s leadership. The club has actively sought to sell players in order to finance new arrivals, having already approved several departures this transfer window. A potential deal for Garnacho would also trigger Manchester United’s 10 per cent sell-on clause from the player’s earlier move to Chelsea.

As Chelsea prepare to depart for their pre-season tour of Australia on July 25, Roma are eager to accelerate discussions to secure Garnacho’s signature before the Blues travel. Bringing in both Garnacho and Summerville would mark a bold statement of intent from the Giallorossi as they gear up for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
