Menopause is characterized by symptoms such as hot flashes, fatigue or insomnia. However, menopause does not only affect the body. Hormonal changes affect women’s mental health. Cognitive ability decreases. Many women feel confused, irritated in their daily routine. This constant confusion erodes confidence. Therefore, experts say that menopause is not only a phase of physical changes, but also an important phase of women’s overall health and emotional well-being.

Menopause begins at an important stage in a woman’s career. During this time, women are working on many fronts. She leads office work while facing menopause. They are entrusted with the responsibility of making many important work- decisions as well as making strategic contributions to the progress of the organization. Keeping in mind the work flow, one should have a sensitive approach towards women in menopause stage in office work as well as in daily life.

The effects of menopause are not directly visible. Women’s participation in work declines abruptly. Sometimes they feel lack of confidence, activity in work decreases. Some women refuse promotions or new leadership opportunities. This is due only to the psychological changes caused by menopause. Despite their leadership skills, they shy away from new opportunities. Lack of necessary support from colleagues, negativity at office level and non-cooperation from others are the major reasons behind it.

Menopause is different for every woman. Every woman’s body structure is not the same. Some women experience mild symptoms. Some women face problems like constant fatigue, anxiety, lack of sleep, mental confusion. Menopause affects every woman differently.

Menopause is not openly discussed in our country even today. So this problem is seen in serious form even today. Many women avoid talking about their problems. They fear that if they discuss this phase, they will be perceived as weak. As a result, mental and physical stress increases. This increases the risk of work stress, loss of work productivity and the possibility of dismissal of experienced and skilled women workers.

This is a huge hurdle from a diversity, equity and inclusion perspective. Companies should make greater efforts to recruit women and develop their skills. Many companies struggle to retain women in senior and leadership positions. Ignoring menopause is an important factor affecting a woman’s career journey. Companies should take the initiative to create an inclusive culture in their offices. Awareness should be created for that. This includes sensitivity at the leadership level, provision of health and mental health services to women, and adoption of flexible working practices to suit changing needs. Negligence in the workplace should be evaluated. Without knowing these problems, the expected change will not happen.

Employing women is not inclusiveness. The office should also create the necessary environment for them to be treated appropriately and for them to progress in leadership roles. Discussing menopause openly is not empathy. This discussion helps to retain women in their office. This also opens up leadership opportunities for women. This discussion should take place for the development of the organization. Menopause should be openly communicated without silence.
