Manchester United’s latest transfer activity could have a direct impact on Ruben Amorim’s rebuilding strategy at his new club, AC Milan.

The Portuguese manager, who is eager to bring his preferred 3-4-3 formation to life at the San Siro, has reportedly identified a current United player as an ideal fit for his system.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that AC Milan had made Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui one of their top priorities in the ongoing summer transfer window.

According to Italian publication Sportmediaset, Milan have already opened discussions with Mazraoui’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta. The 28-year-old defender, who will turn 29 in November, is admired by the Rossoneri for his tactical flexibility and considerable experience at the highest level. Amorim, familiar with Mazraoui’s abilities, sees him as a valuable asset capable of operating across multiple defensive roles.

Mazraoui was one of Morocco’s standout performers at the FIFA World Cup, demonstrating his adaptability by covering several positions along the backline. Having previously played for Bayern Munich before joining Manchester United, he now has less than two years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford. Nonetheless, Milan’s pursuit of the player is not expected to be straightforward.

Reports suggest that Milan have yet to initiate formal talks with United, who themselves are actively pursuing a full-back replacement ahead of any potential departure.

Sportmediaset further claims that United have already begun negotiations to sign Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams. The Welsh defender, standing at six feet tall, is known for his speed and versatility. While his natural position is left-back, Williams featured on the right flank 12 times across all competitions last season, underlining his adaptability.

The Red Devils are believed to be in advanced discussions over a possible move for the 25-year-old, whose arrival would likely open the door for Mazraoui’s exit—something that would greatly please both Amorim and the Milan hierarchy.

A separate report has previously indicated that Williams, who rose through Liverpool’s academy ranks, would be open to a switch to Old Trafford. If United are successful in securing his signature, it could set off a chain reaction that reshapes both clubs’ defensive setups ahead of the new season.
