Dharwad (Karnataka): When reality turns out to be scarier than the screenplay of a horror movie, it's natural to get goosebumps. A sensational incident has come to light from Dharwad, Karnataka, which has shaken the entire country. The sixth floor of a luxurious apartment, human blood scattered all around, a lifeless corpse, an innocent child in agony and a woman lying on the bed in the same room, who was scrolling the screen of her mobile phone in a very normal manner without any wrinkle. This is not a fictional story, but the horrific scene in the house of Dr. Kiran Honavar, anesthetist of Viva Hospital, which shocked even the police officers.
This horrifying sequence started when Dr. Kiran's relatives and friends called him on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. From the other end, Dr. Kiran's wife Priyanka picked up the phone - herself a qualified doctor (MBBS, MS Ophthalmology). There was not even an iota of nervousness in Priyanka's voice. “He is resting now,” she told relatives in a very casual tone. When called again a few hours later, he changed the story and said, "He has left for his duty." No one had any idea that behind these calm answers there was a soul-shattering truth hidden.

On Wednesday evening, when Dr. Kiran could not be contacted despite repeated calls, the worried family members reached his sixth floor flat located opposite Pawan High School. The sight that appeared in front of them upon opening the door made the ground slip beneath their feet. There was blood scattered all over the flat. Dr. Kiran Honavar was lying dead in a room soaked in blood. At the same time, his 8 year old innocent son was seriously injured, hanging between life and death. But the most surprising and scary thing was that the accused wife Priyanka was lying on the bed in the same room and was playing something on her phone with a very cool mind. She neither saw the remorse of her husband's death nor heard the screams of her suffering son.

On information from neighbors and family, Hubli-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shasikumar immediately reached the spot with his team. As soon as they stepped into the room, the police realized that time was very short. He saw that the injured child was still breathing. Without wasting a moment, the police immediately took the suffering innocent boy to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Commissioner Sasikumar told the media: "Dr Kiran was found dead in a room, while his 8-year-old son was also brutally attacked with a knife. We have to investigate when exactly the child was attacked. Since he was alive, our priority was to rush him to the hospital."

Initial investigation has made this entire matter more complicated and full of suspense. According to the police, only Dr. Kiran, his wife Priyanka and their son were present inside the apartment at the time of the incident. No signs of forced entry or theft by any outsider were found inside the house. So far, there is no indication that any outsider has forcibly entered the house. Police are now examining call records, mobile data, CCTV footage, forensic evidence and timeline of events. It is also being ascertained who the accused talked to after the alleged incident and what information he gave.
According to police, 45-year-old Dr Kiran Honavar was an anesthetist at Chirayu Hospital. His wife Priyanka Kattanahalli is also associated with the medical profession. Investigation has revealed that when relatives and friends tried to contact Dr. Kiran on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, Priyanka picked up the phone. First he said that Kiran was resting, later he told that he had gone on duty. These answers made the family suspicious. When no contact could be made for several hours, the family members reached the flat directly on Wednesday evening. The scene that emerged after the door opened shocked everyone.
The investigating agencies are also examining the mobile phone, digital activities and call detail records (CDR) of the accused. Police are trying to find out when the incident happened, who called after that and whether any kind of plan or dispute already existed. Forensic evidence collected from the scene will also be important in determining the sequence in which the attacks occurred and the real motive behind the crime.
At present, the police have registered a case of murder and started investigation. However, the reason behind the murder has not been officially revealed yet. Investigators say that family dispute, mental condition, digital evidence and all other possible aspects are being investigated impartially. Now the biggest question is that why did a highly educated doctor's wife murder her own husband so brutally? And an even bigger question – can a mother stab her own 8 year old son with a knife like this? Police are now scanning the call records, chats and internet history of Priyanka's mobile phone to find out who and what she was talking to at the time of the incident and after that. A case of murder has been registered, and the police is busy connecting the links.
