IRCTC New Website Interface: There is excellent news for the millions of passengers who travel via Indian Railways. IRCTC has launched its new, state-of-the-art Beta website ([https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/](https://www.irctc.co.in/eticket/)). The primary objective of this major upgrade is to permanently eliminate issues such as server crashes, errors, and slow speeds—particularly during peak hours and the morning 'Tatkal' booking rush.
The integration of new Passenger Reservation System (PRS) technology has significantly enhanced the website's capacity. The portal is now fully capable of booking over 1.5 lakh tickets per minute, a massive improvement over the previous limit of 32,000 tickets per minute.
New Website Look and User Interface (Modern Layout)
Compared to the old site, the new Beta website offers a vastly improved and user-friendly experience. It features a clean, simple layout. The design is modern, uncluttered, and spacious, making it easy for passengers to search for trains. Additionally, the site is free from advertisements and pop-ups; intrusive commercial ads, flashing graphics, and annoying pop-ups that previously interrupted the booking process have been completely removed. Visibility has also been prioritized; larger fonts and color coding make it easy to navigate long lists of trains and check seat availability (Available/WL) at a glance.
Key Options and Advanced Features Available on the Page
This high-tech portal includes several features designed to save time—such as the ability to view availability across all travel classes on a single screen. This means you no longer need to repeatedly click on separate tabs to view seat availability for Sleeper, 3AC, or 2AC classes; seat availability for all classes will be displayed simultaneously on a single screen. The site features a fare calendar that allows you to compare ticket prices across different dates, making it easier to select the most affordable day for your journey. For passenger convenience, unnecessary CAPTCHA requirements have been removed, effectively eliminating the hassle of repeated CAPTCHA verification during standard and regular bookings. This facilitates the quick and easy booking of Tatkal tickets within just a few minutes. During the booking process, passengers can also precisely select their preferred seat or berth—such as lower, middle, upper, or side lower. The portal supports several major Indian languages. Additionally, concessional booking facilities for differently-abled individuals, students, and patients have now been integrated into a single, unified system.
**New, Streamlined Ticket Booking Process (Step-by-Step)**
Following the portal's redesign, the ticket booking process has been significantly shortened to just 5–6 steps. You do not need to create a new account; your existing ID and password will work. To book a ticket, simply follow the steps below:
**Step 1: Log In:** Go to the 'Login' button located at the top-right corner of the website and enter your existing username and password.
**Step 2: Search for a Journey:** In the 'Enquiry' box on the homepage, select the stations ('From' and 'To'), the date of travel, and the quota (e.g., General or Tatkal), then click on 'Search Trains'.
**Step 3: Select Train and Class:** A list of all trains for your route will appear in a card format. Check seat availability for all classes on the same screen and click 'Book' under your preferred class.
Step 4: Enter Passenger Details: Provide the passengers' names, ages, and genders. Notably, the website now stores your 'Saved Details,' so you won't need to re-enter names for future bookings. You can also select your seat preference here.
Step 5: Fast Checkout and Payment: UPI and IRCTC iPay have been integrated directly into the booking process. Simply choose your preferred payment method, and your confirmed ticket will be booked instantly upon completion of the payment.
