Liverpool have reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai regarding a new contract, as per journalist Ben Jacobs.
While the key terms of the new contract have been settled, both Szoboszlai and the club are yet to officially sign the agreement.
The Merseyside club is determined to avoid another major departure after seeing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate leave on free transfers within the past year.
The Hungarian international was voted Liverpool’s Player of the Season for 2025/26 and also earned the club’s Player of the Month award on five separate occasions.
During the campaign, Szoboszlai made 57 appearances across all competitions, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists. Notably, he scored four direct free-kicks in the Premier League.
In Liverpool’s 2024/25 league title-winning season, Szoboszlai was pivotal, featuring in 29 starting line-ups and playing a crucial role in their success.
Since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2023, Szoboszlai has become a cornerstone of the team’s midfield setup.
His adaptability, relentless work ethic, creativity, and leadership qualities have cemented his position as one of the most valuable members of Jürgen Klopp’s squad.
With Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson departing, Szoboszlai is expected to take on an even more influential role at Anfield in the upcoming season.
He is also among the frontrunners for the vice-captaincy position, alongside goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Szoboszlai will travel with Liverpool’s squad to the United States on Monday for their pre-season tour, where he is expected to play a prominent part in preparations for the new campaign.
