Sometimes, it's not about the runs on the scoreboard; it's about the presence in the dressing room. That's exactly what former India batter Mohammad Kaif felt watching India's convincing ODI win over England at Edgbaston.
While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn't pile on massive scores, Kaif noticed something far more valuable: an unmistakable surge of energy and belief. Their return, along with Jasprit Bumrah's, changed the entire complexion of the side. The T20I series had missed these big names, and it showed. But at Edgbaston, everything clicked.
"Virat at covers, diving, talking, pushing everyone; that energy makes a difference," Kaif told Cricbuzz. He pointed to the huddles, the intensity, and the sheer aura that seniors bring, which rubs off on younger players.
Bumrah, meanwhile, needed no introduction. Returning after 968 days in ODI cricket, he dismissed England captain Harry Brook to claim his 150th ODI wicket. That scalp also made him India's leading wicket-taker on English soil, overtaking Ravindra Jadeja's 30. Only Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav reached the 150-wicket mark faster than Bumrah's 4,605 deliveries.
Kaif also praised Shubman Gill, whose batting average of 60 and growing captaincy maturity honed in the IPL add a stable bridge between youth and experience. With seniors back and juniors stepping up, India look like a complete unit again. And as Kaif summed it up, that combination made all the difference.
