StepX Neo AI Smartphone— The way of using smartphones in the tech world is going to change completely. China’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) startup company StepFun on Monday launched the world’s first mass-market agentic smartphone StepX Neo globally. Founded by former Microsoft executives in the year 2023, this company claims that this device has an in-built AI agent that will automatically open different apps and handle your complex tasks with very little user intervention. This phone is directly challenging the traditional definition of an app-based operating system.
This new handset works on the company’s own designed Step Edge foundation model. For its operation, the company has prepared a custom operating system Step AOS. Usually, voice assistants present in phones only open apps or send messages on your command, but StepX Neo’s system can complete the work by going directly inside the apps. For example, if you instruct it to book a cab or order food from an app, it runs in the background and automatically operates these apps to complete the task for you. Additionally, this phone supports live translation in 32 languages, making real-time translation extremely easy during conversations.
The biggest attraction of the StepX Neo is its proprietary AI assistant, named Step Amoo. According to the report of Wall Street China, this is not an ordinary chatbot which has to be downloaded separately.
After the introduction of this technology in the Indian market, the experience of smartphone users will completely change. Currently, consumers have to manually complete multiple steps by opening different apps to order food, book a cab or book a ticket. With the arrival of agentic phone, all these tasks can be completed in the background by just giving a voice command. This will save a lot of time and the time spent on the mobile screen (screen time) will also reduce significantly. However, the company has not yet shared official information regarding its launch and local price in other countries outside China.
