Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club has formally submitted an official offer to Atletico Madrid for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, marking a pivotal moment in their summer transfer campaign.
The latest updates on Barcelona’s transfer activity indicate that Alvarez is at the top of manager Hansi Flick’s wishlist, with the Catalan side determined to secure one of the most high-profile signings of the transfer window.
According to reports, Barcelona’s offer for Alvarez is valued at roughly €100 million, and the club is now waiting for Atletico Madrid’s response. While there is still optimism within the Camp Nou hierarchy, Laporta has made it clear that Barcelona’s patience has limits and that the club will explore other potential signings if talks stall.
Although the pursuit of Alvarez remains Barcelona’s main objective this summer, the club has no intention of increasing the fixed portion of its €100 million proposal. Club executives believe this figure fairly represents the player’s market valuation while maintaining financial discipline within Barcelona’s budgetary framework.
Instead of raising the guaranteed fee, Barcelona are open to enhancing the offer through performance-related bonuses. These variables could depend on both team achievements—such as winning La Liga or the UEFA Champions League—and individual milestones reached by Alvarez himself.
This structure would make Barcelona’s proposal more appealing by introducing realistic bonus incentives rather than raising the guaranteed payment upfront.
Discussing the situation, Laporta confirmed that Barcelona had already submitted their bid and were now waiting for a decision from Atletico Madrid.
“We sent a bid for Julian and Atletico will decide. This bid is a very good one, but it’s not valid forever,” Laporta stated firmly.
Despite Alvarez being their top target, Barcelona are not allowing this single negotiation to dictate their entire transfer strategy. The club’s leadership, including Flick and sporting director Deco, are preparing alternative options in case Atletico Madrid reject the offer or delay their response.
Laporta acknowledged that both Flick and Deco share a strong desire to bring the Argentina international to Barcelona but emphasised that the club is ready to pivot to other opportunities if necessary.
“Flick and Deco want Julian… but if Atlético do not accept, we will work on alternative options,” he concluded.
