Anthony Gordon has opened up about his immense disappointment after England’s dramatic exit from the World Cup at the hands of Argentina. The Barcelona winger had earlier given England hope by scoring the opening goal in the semi-final, but Thomas Tuchel’s men conceded twice late in the game, ending the Three Lions’ dream of reaching their first World Cup final since 1966.

Barcelona’s Gordon put Tuchel’s side ahead in the 55th minute, converting a fine cross from Morgan Rogers. Posting from his personal Instagram account, the former Newcastle United forward shared his sorrow and disappointment with England fans after the heartbreaking defeat. Gordon wrote: “Truly devastated. I genuinely believed this was our time to win after waiting so many years, but it wasn’t meant to be, and this one will hurt for a long time.”

The 25-year-old enjoyed a standout tournament in North America, recording one goal and three assists in six matches.
