Devajit Saikia, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has addressed the ongoing rumors regarding Rohit Sharma's potential retirement. He emphasized that there has been no conversation about the upcoming ODI at Lord's against England being Rohit's last match.
Despite the swirling rumors suggesting that the third ODI against England could mark Rohit's final appearance in the 50-over format, both Rohit and the BCCI have not issued any formal statements regarding his retirement.
"There are numerous speculations circulating in the media about Rohit Sharma's future. I want to clearly state that there has been no discussion indicating that Rohit will play his last match at Lord's on Sunday. He remains a vital part of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the nation as long as he is considered for selection. In summary, the ODI at Lord's will not be his final game," Saikia stated.
Rohit Sharma, aged 39, made his ODI debut against Ireland on June 23, 2007, and has already retired from both T20I and Test formats. The speculation regarding his retirement has intensified during the current series against England, where he has faced challenges with his batting performance. In the first two ODIs, he scored 11 and 26 runs, totaling 241 runs in eight matches this year, averaging 30.12, with a top score of 79.
