Manchester United have once again turned to the Premier League to strengthen their squad, recently adding midfielders from Chelsea and Aston Villa to their ranks.
However, earlier in the transfer window, the club’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, showed that he is open to casting a wider net in pursuit of the perfect profiles for Michael Carrick’s team.
That approach explains why Wilcox had been eager to secure the services of Ederson from Atalanta — a dynamic midfielder known for his aggressive running and physical duels — before the Brazilian’s medical setback prevented the move.
While United have already signed Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, they still lack a physically imposing midfielder capable of covering large areas of the pitch and dictating play.
In this search, another Serie A talent has reportedly caught Wilcox’s eye.
As per TEAMtalk, Manchester United’s recruitment team have been deeply impressed by AS Roma’s midfielder Manu Kone and his performances throughout the season.
Kone demonstrated outstanding technical skills and tactical intelligence during the World Cup, even outshining well-known midfielders like Aurelien Tchouameni in North America.
Graeme Bailey told TEAMtalk, “He has been a key player for Roma and has earned the trust of Didier Deschamps with France. United believe he has matured significantly, and that makes him an attractive option. Sure, he doesn’t have Premier League experience yet, but they feel he possesses everything they’re looking for.”
TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent also mentioned that Kone is regarded as “one of the more serious options” for United, who are currently targeting a third midfield addition this summer.
The 25-year-old is reportedly available for a transfer fee in the region of £51 million, a valuation that the Old Trafford hierarchy finds quite appealing.
Furthermore, Manchester United’s global stature is said to be a “huge appeal” for the Roma star, and his representatives have already “made that known to Jason Wilcox and his team.”
Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed reports from Italy suggesting that the Red Devils are expected to make a formal offer for Kone in the next few days.
