Tech company OpenAI has launched its first hardware device. This device is the company’s coding accessory. The device launched by the company is linked to OpenAI’s AI coding and productivity agent Codex. OpenAI has partnered with hardware design company Work Louder to create this new product. The designer of this product is Jony Ive, who previously worked at Apple.

Features of Codex Micro

OpenAI has said that this device has been launched in limited partnership with Work Louder. Work Louder has also launched a similar product, the Creator Micro 2, designed in collaboration with Figma. According to the company, with Codex Micro, users can easily monitor and manage AI agents.

This device provides 6 agent – ​​keys, which flash and indicate the status of running threads. It also has a joystick, which initiates request review and refactoring workflows. It also has a dial, which adjusts the range. Work Louder’s standard Creator Micro 2 costs $144. Compared to this, the device launched by OpenAI is a bit expensive. The standard device also has many features designed for codec users. It also has separate buttons for 6 different agents.

Flashing lights on device buttons indicate status. A white light indicates idle mode, a blue light initiates processing, a green light indicates task completion, and a red light highlights a problem. After a single key press the agent is assigned and after a double press the agent window comes up. This button can also be customized by users. Additionally, each button has a push-to-talk feature, allowing users to issue commands by speaking in Codex.
