Toll Tax: No more paying toll tax repeatedly; create a digital pass in minutes..

There is great news for frequent toll payers. If your home is located within a 20-kilometer radius of a toll plaza, you no longer need to make repeated trips to the plaza to pay tolls or get a pass made. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a digital 'Local Pass' service for such individuals. With this pass, eligible users can travel through the designated toll plaza an unlimited number of times for a month. The best part is that the entire process can now be completed in just a few minutes using a mobile phone.

NHAI has currently launched this facility at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on Delhi's Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). In the coming months, it will be implemented at other toll plazas across the country. This move aims to promote the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system—a barrier-free tolling mechanism. Under this system, vehicles do not need to stop to pay tolls, which saves time and reduces traffic congestion.

How to get the digital local pass?
Obtaining the digital local pass has become much easier than before. To do this, you simply need to open the 'RajmargYatra' app on your mobile phone.

Once you enter your vehicle details in the app, your address, vehicle number, and the linked FASTag will be automatically verified via the VAHAN database.

If the verification confirms that your residence is within a 20-kilometer radius of the relevant toll plaza, you will be able to purchase the local pass directly through the app.

After purchasing the pass, you can travel through that toll plaza as often as you like for the entire month without paying individual toll charges. Previously, people had to visit the toll plaza to submit documents for this facility, but the entire process has now moved online.

Where has the service been launched?

NHAI has launched this digital local pass service at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza in Delhi. The MLFF system has been operational at this toll plaza since May 11. A digital pass facility for local residents has now been added to this system.

According to officials, people living near toll plazas use this route multiple times a day. Previously, they had to pay the toll tax or go through the process of obtaining a pass for every trip. The digital local pass will largely eliminate this inconvenience, offering eligible residents a hassle-free travel experience.

What are the benefits and future plans?
This new measure will save time for locals, eliminate paperwork, and make daily commutes much easier. It will also promote barrier-free toll systems, thereby reducing long queues of vehicles at toll plazas.

The NHAI states that this service will be rolled out in a phased manner at other toll plazas across the country in the coming months. If your residence is within 20 kilometers of a toll plaza, you can check your eligibility and obtain a digital local pass via the 'Rajmargyatra' app. This will provide significant relief to daily commuters and make travel much more convenient.
