Team India has been announced for the FIH Hockey World Cup. 20 players have got a chance in the team. Four important players playing in the Europe Pro League have been left out of the team. These include the names of defender Amandeep Lakra, midfielders Raj Kumar Pal and Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, and forward Selvam Karthi. India had a disappointing performance in the FIH Pro League last month, winning four matches, drawing five and losing seven, leaving the Indian team at 8th position. Talking about the World Cup, Team India was at 9th position in the year 2023. Team India had won the World Cup in 1975 and since then this team has not won any medal.
Drag-flicker and defender Harmanpreet Singh, who won India a bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, will captain the team. Experienced midfielder Manpreet Singh is also making the team experienced. Goalkeeping includes Mohit HS and Suraj Karkera. The defenders include Jarmanpreet Singh, captain Harmanpreet, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Sanjay, Sumit and Yashdeep Siwach. The command of the midfield is with players like Manpreet, Hardik Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad. The forward line includes Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Abhishek, Sukhjit Singh and Shilanand Lakra.
India have been placed in Pool D along with England, Pakistan and Wales, and all the team's group stage matches are to be played in Amstelveen, Netherlands.
