Chelsea have officially announced the acquisition of England forward Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa in a club-record transfer valued at approximately £117 million, strengthening Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.

The 23-year-old has inked a six-year deal with the Blues at Stamford Bridge, following an impressive spell at Villa where he rose to prominence as one of the league’s standout attacking talents. The transfer fee surpasses the £115 million Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023, making it not only a club record but also the highest transfer fee ever paid for a British player.

Rogers departs Aston Villa after a remarkable 2025–26 season, during which he played a key role in their Europa League triumph. He scored and provided an assist in the final against Freiburg, while also netting 10 Premier League goals. His performances earned him a consistent place in the England national team, where he contributed an assist in the Three Lions’ journey to the World Cup semi-finals earlier this summer.

Chelsea overcame competition from Arsenal, who had also identified Rogers as a prime target, before swiftly finalising terms with Villa. Known for his versatility and creative flair, Rogers is expected to bring both goals and imagination to Alonso’s side, with the Spanish manager considering him a cornerstone of his long-term rebuilding project.

Rogers initially joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 and quickly evolved under Unai Emery into one of England’s most promising young forwards. His development over the past two seasons has significantly enhanced his market value, culminating in one of the most expensive transfers in Premier League history.
