How to check if petrol is pure?

If you have any doubts about the quality of the petrol, you can verify it. Petrol pumps offer facilities for ‘filter paper tests’ and ‘density tests.’ If a few drops of petrol placed on filter paper evaporate completely without leaving a stain, the petrol is considered pure. Additionally, quality can be checked by examining the density register available at the petrol pump. If any discrepancy is suspected, customers can lodge a complaint with the respective oil company or the consumer helpline.

How much have petrol and diesel prices changed?

There have been no major changes in petrol and diesel prices in the country since the beginning of 2026. So far, there has been an increase of approximately ₹8 per liter. Prices were revised four times in the month of May alone. Since then, fuel prices have remained largely stable in most cities across the country, including Delhi. Although crude oil prices in the international market have witnessed sharp fluctuations on several occasions, state-owned oil companies have not altered retail prices. Consequently, ordinary consumers are purchasing petrol and diesel at roughly the same price in July as they were in January.
