The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) could commence NEET UG counselling at any time. While the MCC has not yet made an official announcement, it is anticipated that the schedule could be released imminently.

NEET UG Counselling 2026: Following the declaration of the NEET UG 2026 results, lakhs of students are now awaiting the counselling schedule to be released by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The counselling process for admission into various medical courses—including MBBS, BDS, and BSc Nursing—is expected to begin soon. Once the schedule is released, candidates will be required to complete online registration, after which the seat allotment and admission processes will proceed.

It is worth noting that, according to the National Medical Commission’s seat matrix for this year, admissions will be granted to a total of 1,36,939 MBBS seats across the country. With over 11.21 lakh candidates having qualified in the NEET UG 2026 exam, intense competition for admission to medical colleges is anticipated due to the limited number of seats.

When might counselling begin?

According to reports, the Medical Counselling Committee could start NEET UG counselling at any time. Although the MCC has not yet issued an official announcement, expectations are high that the schedule could be released soon following the declaration of the NEET UG results on July 16. Through MCC counselling, admissions will be conducted for 15% All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats, as well as seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, Central Universities, Deemed Universities, ESIC medical colleges, AFMS institutes, and BSc Nursing programs. Meanwhile, the admission process for the 85% State Quota seats will be handled by the respective state counselling authorities.

How to register online for counselling

Once counselling begins, candidates will need to visit the official MCC website to complete a new registration. Subsequently, they will need to log in by providing details related to their NEET application. The application form can be submitted after paying the prescribed registration fee. Candidates are advised to download the confirmation page upon completing the application and keep it safe for future reference.

Counseling May Consist of Four Rounds

Based on patterns from previous years, the counseling process this time may also be conducted in four stages. These will include Round 1, Round 2, the Mop-up Round, and the Stray Vacancy Round. Following seat allotment in each stage, candidates must report to the designated medical college.

Keep These Essential Documents Ready in Advance

Candidates will be required to submit several essential documents during the counseling process. These include the NEET UG 2026 admit card and score card, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and certificates, a valid photo identity proof, passport-sized photographs, caste certificate, domicile certificate, disability certificate, and the provisional allotment letter issued after seat allocation. Any discrepancy or missing document could lead to complications in the admission process.
