India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to accelerate work towards connecting the Indian DigiLocker with the digital platform of the UAE. After this, authentication of educational degrees and documents of Indian professionals working in UAE will be easier and faster. This is also expected to boost employment and higher education opportunities.

In the seventh meeting of the India-UAE Joint Committee on Consular Affairs (JCCA), the two countries held wide-ranging discussions on issues related to visas, consular services, legal cooperation, workers' safety and community welfare.

Agreed to further strengthen legal cooperation

Before the meeting, consular matters, Labor & Mobility, Extradition and Mutual Legal Assistance were also discussed at the technical level. The two countries reviewed the progress made since the last JCCA meeting held in Abu Dhabi in November 2025 and agreed to further strengthen consular, visa and legal cooperation. Also, it was decided to continue the monthly review mechanism and implement the decisions taken through technical meetings.

Appreciation of welfare and cooperation of 45 lakh Indian community

The Indian side appreciated the welfare and support extended by the UAE leadership to the approximately 45 lakh Indian community living there. Both countries also reiterated their commitment to ensure the safety, dignity and welfare of their citizens living in each other's countries. It was also decided in the meeting that the next meeting of India-UAE joint consular affairs will be held in Abu Dhabi on a mutually agreed date. Trade between India and UAE is continuously increasing. Both the countries have set a target of increasing bilateral trade to 200 billion dollars in the coming years. In fact, this step of both the countries is expected to benefit the Indian professionals working in UAE.
