New Delhi: Events suddenly took a new turn on Friday amidst the political and student agitation that has been going on for the last several weeks over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy. On one hand, the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced that the government has agreed to hold talks at the Constitution Club of India on July 25, while on the other hand, activist Sonam Wangchuk ended her 26-day long indefinite fast after the assurance from the Central Government. However, CJP has made it clear that it will not back down from demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das said that the organization will attend the meeting with the government on Saturday. According to him, one of his main demands was the selection of an impartial venue like the Constitution Club of India instead of a government office for talks. He said that the organization welcomes this decision and hopes that the government will take a concrete stand on important issues like reforming the examination system and accountability.
The night of 24 July 2026 has been recorded as a big turning point in the history of the country. The fast of renowned activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was battling death on the hospital bed for the last 26 days, has finally been broken. This dramatic turn came when Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh suddenly reached Medanta Hospital in Gurugram around midnight. In the presence of Wangchuk's wife Geetanjali Angmo, Nadda read out an assurance letter from the government which changed the direction of the movement. Wangchuk said that 65 MPs from different political parties had appealed to him to end the fast and he took this decision in view of the possible tension in the country.

The government bowed for the first time and admitted that no police case would be registered against the students who participated in the 'Sansad Chalo' march on July 20 and the peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar. Union Health Minister JP Nadda gave information about many important assurances from the government. He said the government is taking a positive view on not registering cases against those who demonstrated peacefully at Jantar Mantar or took part in the 'Sansad Chalo' march organized on July 20. Moreover, the government has already agreed to discuss paper leaks and examination reforms in Parliament. But the biggest shocking decision came to the aggrieved families whose children had committed suicide due to depression over the NEET scam – the government is now positively considering giving them appropriate compensation.

Although the atmosphere has softened somewhat after Wangchuk ended his fast, CJP has clearly said that the movement is not over. The organization says that their protest will continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns and accountability is not fixed in the education system. That is, despite the beginning of dialogue between the government and the agitators, the biggest political dispute still remains the same.
Now all eyes are on the meeting of the government and CJP to be held on July 25. This conversation is taking place at a time when the NEET-UG 2026 controversy has become a big political issue from Parliament to the streets. If the meeting reaches a solid consensus on issues like examination reforms, accountability and student safety, the long-running impasse could be eased. But if the talks remain inconclusive, the possibility of further intensification of the movement cannot be ruled out.
The end of the fast after 26 days is certainly an important development, but it has not completely ended the movement. Saturday's talks between the government and the CJP will decide whether the NEET dispute will move towards resolution or a new round of protests will begin across the country. At present, the eyes of the entire country are fixed on this important meeting and its results.
