Uttarakhand Technical University Paper Leak: Police is continuously taking strict action to make the examinations fair and transparent in Uttarakhand. In the same sequence, Dehradun Police has arrested Ashish Kumar Gupta, assistant professor of Shivalik College of Engineering, Jhajhra, on charges of leaking the question paper of semester examination of Uttarakhand Technological University (UTU). After this action there has been a stir in the education world. Police say that the investigation of the case is still going on and it is being found out who else are involved in this entire network.
This matter is to the even-semester examination of UTU held on 8th July. Controller of Examinations Dr. Vinay Kumar Patel had lodged a complaint at Kotwali Premnagar. According to the complaint, even before the commencement of the examination, some important questions were sent in a WhatsApp group of students.
When the examination was over and the question papers were matched, it was found that the questions sent on WhatsApp and the questions asked in the examination were largely similar. After this, the university administration took the matter seriously and started investigation.
UTU formed an internal committee to investigate the entire matter. The committee examined the students, teachers and digital records. Investigation revealed that even before the commencement of the examination, the same questions which were later asked in the question paper had reached the students.
The investigation report also revealed that the questions were shared through WhatsApp groups and other social media mediums. After this the university gave complete information to the police and demanded legal action.
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun ordered immediate investigation. Premnagar police station collected technical and digital evidence. Based on the evidence found during the investigation, Assistant Professor Ashish Kumar Gupta was arrested.
Police have also recovered mobile phones and other electronic devices from the accused. Forensic investigation of these devices is being done to find out how the question paper was leaked and who played a role in it.
The police is no longer considering this matter limited to just one person. The investigating agencies are trying to find out whether any organized gang was behind leaking the question paper. It is also being investigated whether similar papers were leaked earlier also and other people or institutions were involved in it. If the role of more people comes to light in the investigation, then strict legal action will be taken against them also.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government will not spare those who are playing with the future of the youth at any cost. He said that a policy of zero tolerance has been adopted against the copying mafia in Uttarakhand.
According to the Chief Minister, whether it is recruitment examinations or university examinations, strict action will be taken against every culprit who violates the confidentiality of the examination system. He said that the aim of the government is to provide a fair examination environment to hardworking and honest students.
The Chief Minister said that the effect of the strict anti-copying law implemented in the state and the continuous action of the police is visible. Till now more than 100 copy mafia and their associates have been arrested.
The government says that such actions will continue in future also. Police, universities and administration are working together to keep the examination system transparent and reliable so that no student is treated unfairly and deserving candidates get the right results of their hard work.
