New Delhi. There is a continuous discussion among the central government employees and pensioners regarding the 8th Pay Commission. Till now, most of the focus has been on the fitment factor, but experts believe that the new salary and pension of the employees will not be decided on this basis alone. The Pay Commission will prepare its final recommendation only after assessing several economic and administrative aspects.
The final report of the commission may come in 2027
The 8th Central Pay Commission was constituted on 3 November 2025. The commission is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai. The Commission is engaged in the process of taking suggestions from various employee organizations, pensioners and other concerned parties. It is expected that the commission may submit its final report to the central government by May-June 2027. After this the government will review the recommendations and take the final decision.
Most attention is kept on fitment factor
The biggest demand of government employees is regarding fitment factor. Employee organizations believe that if the fitment factor is kept high then a good increase in the basic salary can be possible. If we look at the previous pay commissions, the fitment factor in the 6th Pay Commission was 1.86. It was increased to 2.57 in the 7th Pay Commission. Different employee organizations are demanding a higher fitment factor than this for the 8th Pay Commission.
These 5 big issues will decide salary and pension
1. Inflation and cost of living
Rising inflation in the country, cost of education, health, housing and daily needs play an important role in determining the salary. Special attention is given to these aspects to maintain the purchasing power of the employees.
2. Financial position of the government
Along with salary increase, the government also has to take care of its fiscal balance. If the government’s financial position becomes stronger, there may be more scope for salary increase.
3. Budget and fiscal deficit
The increase in salaries and pensions has a direct impact on government expenditure. Therefore, the Commission will also see whether the proposed changes are in line with the budget and fiscal goals of the Central Government or not.
4. Suggestions from employees and pensioners
The Commission is continuously taking suggestions from employee organizations and pensioners across the country. These suggestions and demands will also be given importance while preparing the final report.
5. Balance in pay structure
The Commission also aims to maintain balance in the pay structure between different departments and posts. Therefore, recommendations will be prepared keeping in mind the interests of different categories of employees.
No official confirmation of any figures yet
Many claims are being made on social media and various forums regarding fitment factor, possible salary increase or increase in pension. But at present the commission has not issued any final recommendation. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to consider any possible figure as official.
