Big news has emerged regarding the 8th Pay Commission for Central Government employees and pensioners, bringing a welcome update for lakhs of staff. The Commission has released a schedule for new meetings with employee associations and pensioner unions in Delhi. These meetings are set for August 7 and August 10, 2026, and will focus on discussing suggestions related to employee salaries, allowances, and pensions.

Approximately 1.19 crore Central Government employees and pensioners across the country are awaiting the Commission's recommendations. **Applications Due by July 31**

The Commission has offered another opportunity to employee and pensioner organizations that had previously submitted their memoranda but have not yet met with the Commission. Such organizations can participate in the meetings scheduled for August 7 or 10. To do so, they must submit an online application by July 31, 2026.

Applicants must request an appointment and provide their Memo ID when applying. Once the application is accepted, the Commission will separately communicate the meeting time and venue. The Commission has also clarified that requests received after the deadline will receive limited consideration; therefore, all organizations are advised to complete the process on time.

**What Issues Will Be Discussed?**

Meanwhile, the Commission's Chairperson, Justice Ranjana Desai, has been assigned the additional responsibility of heading the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) boards in several states. The objective of the 8th Pay Commission is to review the salary, allowance, and pension structures for Central Government employees and pensioners. To this end, the Commission is gathering suggestions from various employee organizations, unions, and federations.

The upcoming meetings in Delhi are part of this process, allowing employee organizations to present their demands and suggestions directly to the Commission. After studying these suggestions, the commission will formulate its recommendations, which will subsequently be submitted to the Central Government. Future pay scales and other benefits will be determined based on these recommendations.

**Meetings to be held in other states following Delhi**
The commission has clarified that the meetings in Delhi represent only the first phase. Consultations with employee organizations will subsequently be held in other states and Union Territories as well.
Organizations based outside Delhi may opt to attend meetings held in their respective states or nearby cities. The commission aims to gather suggestions from the maximum number of organizations to ensure that the views of all stakeholders are incorporated into the final report. According to media reports, several employee organizations had been awaiting updates from the commission for some time. Meanwhile, the All India NPS Employees Federation (AINPSF) had also urged the commission to release a meeting schedule promptly. The organization welcomed the announcement of the new schedule and expressed hope that the commission would soon finalize its report and submit it to the government.
