Delhi Police AI Glasses: A new technology has become a topic of discussion amid the ongoing student movement at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. It is being seen that in the pictures and videos going viral on social media, some policemen were seen wearing smart glasses, after which the question arose whether Delhi Police is now using AI based smart glasses and facial recognition technology? With this, a new debate has started in the country regarding privacy, surveillance and digital rights.
Information has come to light that in the pictures that went viral during the protests by CJP and student organizations, some policemen were allegedly seen wearing devices like Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses. But before this, in January 2026, Delhi Police had informed about the use of AI based smart glasses for the security of Republic Day. At that time it was told that these devices have been developed by Indian company AjnaLens which have modern features like face recognition, video analytics and thermal imaging.
Now a petition has also been filed in Delhi High Court regarding this issue. It has been alleged in the petition that photographs and video recordings are being continuously made of the people protesting at Jantar Mantar. It also said that even after the protest was over, people’s activities were being monitored. Not only this, Delhi Police, while presenting its stand in the court, said that recording of protests is done to maintain law and order and it is not right to call it surveillance. In this case, the court has sought answers from the police regarding the recording process and applicable rules.
If we look at the use of AI based smart glasses, they can scan the faces of the people present nearby. If a person’s face matches the record present in the police database, an immediate alert can be sent to the mobile of the concerned policeman. This makes it easier to identify suspicious persons among the crowd. At the same time, reports also said that Delhi Police is already using a network of thousands of AI-enabled CCTV cameras which have features like face detection, number plate recognition and crowd analysis.
For now the question is arising that due to the increasing use of this technology, there are concerns about privacy. He says that at present there is no clear law in India that completely controls the use of face recognition technology in public places. At the same time, the police believe that AI based surveillance system can play an important role in stopping crime and speeding up the investigation process.
