New York [US], July 24: NBA icon LeBron James has declared his intention to join the Philadelphia 76ers, marking what he calls the concluding chapter of his illustrious career. The veteran player emphasized that his choice was solely driven by his ambition to secure another NBA championship.

At 41 years old, James, who holds the record as the NBA's all-time leading scorer, made this announcement on Friday, bringing an end to his eight-year tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is gearing up for his unprecedented 24th NBA season with the 76ers, aiming to help the franchise clinch its first championship in 43 years.

"This is my final decision. I'm not motivated by money or family. What truly drives me at this stage?" James expressed on X.

"I still want to put in the effort. I still want to compete, to win, and to experience the joy of winning another championship. I believe I can contribute to making the Philadelphia 76ers a championship-caliber team, and I'm thrilled to engage with a new fan base and embark on this remarkable journey one last time," he added.

James stated that his choice to make this pivotal move was centered around one goal: winning another championship.

After spending eight years with the Lakers, where he played a key role in securing the 2020 NBA title, the four-time champion took time during the offseason to contemplate whether he still had the drive to continue his career.

"I thought I was finished when the season wrapped up. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed time to truly reflect, but I was fairly certain I had played my last game," James shared.

"I was candid at that last press conference when I mentioned needing to evaluate my feelings about the game. I still genuinely love this game, and I have more to offer," he stated.

James left the Los Angeles Lakers in June after an eight-year period that yielded mixed outcomes. His time in Los Angeles included an NBA championship in his second season, where he played a crucial role in the team's title win during the COVID-19 bubble.

The four-time NBA MVP also achieved numerous records during his Lakers career, most notably surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA's all-time leading scorer.
